CFL Bulb Recycle

  • CFL - Compact Fluorescent  Light
  • So simply CFL is the compact version of so called Tube Light. The CFL manufactures has miniaturized the traditional components of tube light as starter ,chalk using electronic components.
  • So after the burn out of CFL if the warranty period has passed , simply we throw away the CFLs.
  • BUT do you know most of the burn out CFL bulbs ( over 80%) have burn out because of the BULB unit , not the circuit.
  • So simply we can use the circuit to make a new bulb.

Only the thing we need is a tube light.

A tube light has 4 connectors, and the CFL circuit has 4 output connectors.

Using four wires, we can connect them to the tube light. First unpack the CFL circuit chamber(use a hacksaw and screwdriver to unpack easily) . Then you can see 4 wires go to the compact tube bulbs. You should disconnect them and connect them to the normal tube light. Please connect the adjacent two wires to the one side of tube  light connectors.Use your soldier to simply connect. If the circuit unit is working properly the tube light will light up.

To check whether the circuit is working , connect a same type ,same Wattage CFL tube bulb unit to the checking circuit.

Please remember that the Wattage of the tube light should match to the Wattage of the CFL circuit. As an example if you use 2 feet tube light use the circuit of 18W CFL circuit unit. So both the bulb and circuit power level is same and it causes a longer life of circuit and bulb.

I have made several bulbs with this modification. I had got 6 burn out CFL bulbs and only one of the circuit unit was not working, other five works perfectly. So try this. It saves money.

Please comment your ideas.

  1. fantastic. I always thought it is possible. It's a crime to throw away useful components.
